I love Sunday afternoons. They tend to bring interesting things, like going to a matinee show of The Music of Andrew Lloyd Webber in the Cultural Center of the Philippines (CCP). It's not really a traditional musical but it showcases the well-loved hits from the great composer's fourteen musicals. His most popular musicals include Cats, Jesus Christ Superstar, Starlight Express, Evita, and Phantom of the Opera.
It was a pretty good show. The theater was packed! Ten minutes into it and my eyes were no longer dry from being touched by the rendition of "Don't Cry For Me Argentina" from Evita. I particularly liked "All I Ask of You" from The Phantom of the Opera. There's really something different about listening to such songs being performed live inside a theater, with a full orchestra to touch you in a very different way. However, today's performance of "Memory" was nothing compared to Leah Salonga's performance in Cats when it was showing in Manila, which I was fortunate to see in August 2010.
I would have wanted the performers to be in costume in order to better put the songs in context. But I guess that's not the concept of the show. And there were certain songs from musicals that I'm not familiar with, which didn't make me enjoy them as much as I enjoyed the other performances.

After the show, went to nearby San Miguel By the Bay for some late afternoon shots and then to Mall of Asia for early dinner :) It was so nice to be out and about after days of rain from Typhoon Falcon!
The Music of Andrew Lloyd Webber is showing in CCP Manila only until 3 July 2011. For more information, visit Ticketworld here.
